Registration opened Monday for all three of the American Birkebeiner’s signature cross country ski races to be held Feb. 23, 2013: the Birkebeiner 50K Skate/54K Classic; the 23K Kortelopet; and the 12K Haakon.

The American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation also announces that this year’s registration cap will be 10,000 participants total for all three races, an increase from last year.

“This increase is in line with our steady growth over time and especially over the last three years. In 2010 through 2012 alone, we set consecutive, all-time records each year for number of participants,” said Ned Zuelsdorff, Executive Director of the American Birkebeiner.

“In 2012 we also reached our cap earlier than ever before, a full three months before the event. This increase to 10,000 is a way to accommodate a few more skiers, especially as we get ready to celebrate our 40th Anniversary. It will be a big year for the Birkie and we want to include as many people who want to participate as possible. In carefully choosing the new cap, we’ve also made every assurance that each participant will again enjoy the highest quality Birkie experience.”

Registration is available online, or by mail or fax. Anyone interested in registering or who wants more information about the American Birkebeiner, can go to the Birkie’s website at www.birkie.com, call 715-634-5025, or email birkie@birkie.com.
