Wisconsin to get 3 new cheese plants
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Three cheesemakers are adding new plants in rural Wisconsin.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports Emmi Roth USA will put a $44 million plant in Platteville to produce specialty cheese starting next year. It's expected to create up to 60 jobs.
Green Bay-based BelGioioso Cheese Inc. is building another plant in Pulaski, in addition to their five in the area now that each specialize in a particular cheese.
Holland's Family Cheese LLC will build a new plant in Thorp, in Clark County. It's expected to be three times larger than their current plant there and add about 10 jobs.
John Umhoefer, of the Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association, says Wisconsin leads the nation in cheese production. There are 135 cheese plants now, up from 120 a decade ago.
